Pool maintenance is a crucial aspect of having one in your home. Luckily, it is not a difficult task to achieve. Whether you are planning to get a swimming pool installation in your yard or you shifted into a home with one, here is what you must know about pool maintenance.

Understanding the Components of a Swimming Pool

Modern pools are made up of these main components.

  • Water

This is the most important and visible component of swimming pools. Pool water can be described as a mixture of reagents and temperature control to make pools safe for swimming in. a standard size for home pools measures 16 x 32 feet and it contains slightly over 20,000 gallons of water.

Many people do not prefer to change the pool water often and this explains why it is crucial to clean yours regularly.

  • Interior

This entails the substance holding the water in place. It is not the outer materials that are normally thin decorative layers for impressions.

The most common pool interiors are; –

  • Plaster made of long-lasting material that is pasted on top of concrete. It lasts for over 20 years and the concrete can be redone at any time.
  • Fiberglass pools are brought to homes and put down in a prepared hole using a crane. They are mostly readymade and can last for about 15 years.
  • Alternative finishes including tiles, pebble mixtures, stones, and other durable components. Alternatives are normally put for aesthetic reasons and lifespans vary from item to item.
  • Vinyl – usually plastic or metal frames are paneled with a waterproof vinyl layer. This component wears off from pool chemicals and sunlight in about 18 years.
  • Filter system

The filter system maintains the cleanliness and safety of pool water. Filters depend on the type of your pool but essentially, their work is to suck in water, get rid of waste, and pollutants, and take back the water to the main part of the swimming pool. This circulation of water helps stop the growth of bacteria that can turn the color of the water hence causing another nuisance if you do not know how to clean a green swimming pool.

There is no ideal filter system since there are some dirt components that must settle on the pool surfaces, probably because they are too big to pass through the filter system

 Maintaining Correct Pool Circulation

This entails making sure that the filter system of your pool has the appropriate speed for its size. If it is very slow, the water will remain dirty. If it is too fast, components will spoil regularly and you may have to replace the water constantly.

Constantly Clean Your Pool

Clean your pool by getting rid of leaves and waste. You can use a long-handled skimmer to achieve this task. This should be done daily to reduce the risks of contamination. Also, installing covers can prevent your pool from collecting dirt. Brush off the residues from the surfaces of the pool once every week and clean your skimmers every day as large waste particles may get stuck in the systems.
